This course is one of seven core modules in the Road Safety Champion Program. It highlights the need for collaboration between transportation, public health, and law enforcement agencies. Participants will learn about the different planning processes and strategies used by these disciplines to improve road safety. This module emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches to achieving the goal of zero road fatalities.
Intended Audience
This course is ideal for beginners and those seeking foundational knowledge in road safety. It is also suitable for participants from the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP), Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), local-level municipalities, and city hall personnel. Additionally, students or staff in transportation, public health, and first responder agencies who are interested in roadway safety but may not have formal training in this area will find this course beneficial.
Course Presenter:
Anne Vernez Moudon, PhD

Anne Vernez Moudon is a Professor Emerita of Urban Design and Planning at the University of Washington and the Associate Director of Education and Workforce Development at PacTrans, the Region 10 University Transportation Center. She has extensive experience in teaching and research, focusing on the relationships between the built environment, health, and active travel. Her work has significantly contributed to understanding how urban design and transportation systems impact public health and safety. Moudon is a recognized expert in her field, with numerous publications and accolades highlighting her contributions to urban planning and public health.
