This course is one of seven core modules in the Road Safety Champion Program. It teaches how to “read the road” as well as the importance of incorporating it in daily activities. Participants will learn how to identify potential safety issues or identify indications which suggest road users may have challenges traveling or navigating a roadway and the steps of a Road Safety Audit (RSA).
Intended Audience
This course is ideal for beginners and those seeking foundational knowledge in road safety. It is also suitable for participants from the Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP), Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), local-level municipalities, and city hall personnel. Additionally, students or staff in transportation, public health, and first responder agencies who are interested in roadway safety but may not have formal training in this area will find this course beneficial.
Course Presenter:
Abigail Powell
Abigail Powell is a Transportation Planner and consultant at Fehr & Peers with experience in transportation safety planning at the local, county, and state levels in both the Southeast and Pacific Northwest. She has worked on crash data analysis, safety reporting, and community engagement to improve roadway safety. Abigail earned a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she served as President of the ITE student chapter and was recognized as a Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellow. She is passionate about roadway safety and active transportation.
